About Straen 70

Tucked into one of Stavanger's most storied streets, Straen 70 is a small shop built around a simple idea: a good visit should feel local, not rushed. We carry coffee and espresso, chocolate, ceramics, textiles, earrings, and a curated shelf of products from makers around the region — the kind of things that make a good gift, or a good excuse to stop in.

The building itself is part of the experience. This stretch of Stavanger grew up in the 1800s as the city's first real residential neighborhood, built to house the wave of sailors, fishermen, merchants, and shipowning families who arrived as the herring trade and shipbuilding boomed — the population nearly tenfolded in just a few decades. The white wooden houses that still line the street were, for the most part, simply home to ordinary working families rather than the wealthy — which is part of what makes the area feel so lived-in today.

We're always adding to what we offer, and are actively exploring some new directions for the shop. On quieter days, you'll often find neighbors dropping by just to chat — Straen 70 has become as much a gathering spot as a shop, and we like it that way.
